Nicknames and Error 512

Nicknames should be separated by comma's. That results in error 512: Separators in first name.

Now that nicknames are separately available in the  database dump the error checking should allow comma's in this item

I will split error 512 into 4 errors, one for each field.

I can ignore commas in nicknames, although I don't use it. I just write names one next to other.

Separating nicknames by comma's is what the explanation of nicknames says. It is good practice as a nickname can be multi-word. In that case separating them with space could have the effect that each single word of the nickname is interpreted as a nickname on it's own.

Commas are supposed to be used in nickname fields when a person has more than one alternative name. This is not an error and it should not be reported as an error.

Why are first names repeated in nicknames?

it is written like this on the profile and it is much too many names, if you ask me. And in nicknames they are repeated again.

Wilhelmus Johannes (Johannes) "Johannes, Willem, Wilhelm, Wilhelmus" Provost

I really have no idea. If I were the PM I would not have done that. I posted a comment on the profile linking to this thread.
This is a complicated profile ... we are still trying to solve things, but this can't be done in just one click . It probably was a man born named Johannes with the patronymic Willems(z) Provoost . So we are working on this (see posts) :)

But since it is showing up at the error data base I'll try and make it less confusing. It looks like he used a last name and patronymic, so he sometimes was referred to as Johannes Willems(z)(Wilhelmus, Guillaums Provost and sometimes just as Johannes Provost. But some sources say or have him as son Willem, Wilhelm , WIlhelmus sometimes named Johannes, so we're still trying to figure this out, which with all the repeated names in this family isn't the most easy thing.

Because these people were duplicated so often and to try and prevent this (new duplicates), we now often are adding more versions of the last names to the other last name fields and different versions of first names to the nick name field. So this not always is an error, but can be a way that seems to work to prevent duplicates.
