Thanks Frank for doing so much work on this.  I'll need to work through everything you've sent.  You've confirmed much of what I already know about Elizabeth McGilvray McKirdy (Hearn).  I'll work through what you've sent to try and confirm her DOB and her parents. As you know, there's always a possibility that the parents on the death cert are incorrect.

Using Elizabeth McGilvray as the base, this is where I'm at.  I had already established that she was born in Inverness and had married Alexander McKirdy in Greenock, Renfrewshire (his third and last wife).  Their son, James McLellan, is my g-grandfather.  Alex is present in the 1871 census but died soon after.  She married John Hearn in 1872.  Since your reply to my query, I've found the census record for 1881 and 1891. I have both her marriage certs.  Her parents are not shown on the McKirdy/McGilvray record, but they are shown on the Hearn record and on her death notice as Donald McGilvray and Elizabeth McPherson of Inverness, both were deceased by the time of her marriage to John Hearn. Also, since your reply I've downloaded the 1841 census showing an Eliz of the right age working as a female servant in Inverness.   The 1861 census shows Catherine McGilvray, 14, a niece.  I've only found one birth for this name, to Alexander in Argyll, but I can't find enough on Alexander to establish if he could be Eliz's brother.  Any other pointers would be helpful.  Regards, Sheena
