Biography format

+7 votes

I'm working on formatting a biography. I can find most things I want, but I'm stuck on having a left and right indent. At the moment I can use : to get a left indent, but that just shifts all text to the right. I'm reasonably familiar with usual html and css.

Any help appreciated.

Can you tell us a little more about what you are trying to style?
I was trying to insert a paragraph from a newspaper into the text. I was aiming to have it indented both left and right from the main text. I can obviously indent left, but I get fed up with inserting <br /> to sort out line length. A right indent would make it easier.

While it doesn't currently indent on both sides (although I REALLY think it should, MLA and APA be damned!) you should probably use the <blockguote> style.  It will help everything be semantically correct, even if the styling isn't ideal.

If you look at Allen-9186 (above), you will see three quotes - the first two indented with use of <br> to sort the lines and the last using <blockquote>. I know which I prefer.
Thank you, Talicyn. That's exactly right. Blockquote is what should be used. Then we can change the styling of blockquote -- everywhere -- if members think it should be changed.
I'll see if I can rustle up support.

Yes, I'm aware of that, Anne, I did read it. So a variation of the question. Can you change the width of the text?
No, unfortunately. If enough people wanted to, we could ask for a recommended way.
OK, thanks,  I'll just have to work the long way round.
