Does anyone have any information on the Oughterson family??

Question

The Oughterson surname is very uncommon, and it is believed that most, or all, Americans with this surname are related. Our line of the Oughterson family came to America through the parents of Alexander Oughterson, who is the son of John Oughterson and Margaret (Cosh) Oughterson, who came from Kirkmaiden, Scotland via Belfast, Ireland. I have been trying to put the pieces together for a family with an uncommon surname, but I am finding it to be a slow process.

I have information up to John and Margaret (Cosh) Oughterson, but I am mainly looking for information about them and their parents, grandparents, and other ancestors outside of America as well. If anyone has any information to help with our family search, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, everyone!

Ulick DeBurke changed his name to William Oughter and moved to Greenock in Scotland around 1650. His son was Arthur Oughterson. The DeBurke's were from Ireland. I am related to the Otterson's in Desertmartin. I'm trying to find out when the name changed from Oughterson to Otteeson.

MRS. ALEXANDER OUGHTERSON-  At the family home, about a mile north of Dundee, Mrs. Alexander Oughterson, died Friday morning, at the age of 51 years. Death was due to Bright's disease, after a brief illness, her condition not being considered serious until a short time before her death. Mrs. Oughterson was born in Scotland. Her maiden name was Josie Delacy. The above shows that New York has the most Oughterson's followed by MI, OH, and TN. The surname occurs in Cumberland county in England and also in Bedfordshire, England. In Scotland, in 1841, Wigtownshire has the surname as does Dunbartonshire. In 1901 in Scotland there were Oughterson's in Lanarkshire and some in Wigtownshire. The clearances took place in 1841. Ireland is not shown at this site.
