I cannot place somebody on the site without birth and death boxes filled in

Hi, In Date Status Options wiki says this

“” Each date fields has a status indicator next to it. You can generally select one of the following:

·   about/uncertain

·   exact/certain

·   before this date

·   after this date

·   intentionally blank

If you know a person has passed away but you don't know their death date, select "uncertain but non-living".””

wiki says I can `generally` select one of the following. what do they mean by `generally`. Surely either I can or I cannot?

- I do not know the birth and death dates of somebody. `Uncertain but not living` is not a listed option on my fill-in page. Neither is `intentionally blank`. (which is what I need)

Any ideas please? Thanks

Hi Timothy.

You're right, the birth selection for uncertain, but not living has been changed to death date selection "blank because living" - which actually makes more sense; it is the absence of death which is important.

One date is required.  You can make a guess.  Just use the {{DateGuess}} template, and tell the method used to estimate a date.

The idea is to prevent profiles without any dates, which are problematic, for obvious reasons- especially those without any sources either.  It can be almost impossible to identify such people, after the creator has left WikiTree (not saying this would happen in your case - just giving you background).  Thanks!
