He died in 1929 and is buried in Burkesville, KY. I would like to know who John Edd's parents were.

You must have the findagrave record.  It shows a spouse Vertie...

This marriage record has a V. C. Lawhorn marrying a J. E. Rains.   Her birth year appears correct, but his off a little.

"Kentucky Marriages, 1785-1979," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F4SR-T5M : 4 December 2014), J. E. Rains and V. C. Lawhorn, 10 Jun 1904; citing Cumberland, Kentucky, reference ; FHL microfilm 216,821.

She's in the 1930 census, too, widowed with children.

"United States Census, 1930", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XM6H-247 : 8 December 2015), Verta C Raynes, 1930.

Hi, thanks so much for trying to help! I know when he was born and who he was married to. What I want to know is, who his parents were. The courthouse where his birth records were stored burned down in the 1930's and there are no records regarding his parentage that I can find online. I also looked in the geneaology room at the library and there is nothing regarding the Rains/Raines family there either.  Vertie was my great grandmother, my father knew her. John Edd died before my dad was born.

Have you tried searching for sources on the FamilySearch website?

You could check out the records in the place He was born. The official records would have his details :)

Hi thanks for the suggestion but there are not any records of his parentage to be found. The courthouse with his birth records burned down and it was before the days of email and copy machines.

I have the same problem with hitting a brick wall as far as he goes. He was my great great grandfather. I don't have much about him other than census records from after his birth, and his wife and kids, but everything before him is just non existent and the people who might know have all passed away.
