GEDCOM - invalid gender

I prepare all my work using my own software and export to WikiTree via GEDCOM. No problems except the WikiTree GEDCOM routines reject the gender (which are M or F). I have emailed info@wikitree.com four times had had no response. There is now a project to correct all these errors which is just a waste of peoples time. The GEDCOM routines need fixing.

Any idea how I cam get this fixed? I am a computer programmer so if I could see the code I could easily identify what the problem is.

I am fixing them by hand but having uploaded 800 profiles it takes a lot of time.

While I sympathise and a WT solution might be desirable, is it not possible to simply find and replace in the GEDCOM - 'M' with 'Male' and 'F' with 'Female'? After discovering a number of problems with my first GEDCOM upload, I did quite a bit of editing of later ones beforehand. It saved an enormous amount of later editing by hand.

No, the correct parameters are M and F. I also used the GEDCOM validation tools to confirm that the file was (GEDCOM) valid. The fault is in WikiTree somewhere. I agree with trying to get your basic data correct to start off with as that does save a great deal of hand editing.
This is not a good suggestion, and can perhaps make the problem worse by hand editing the file.

The gedcom standard is "M" or "F". Anything else should be expected to be invalid.

Its a very interesting bug. I wonder if the original gedcom export is including some odd encoding, or special characters or line endings?

Hi John,

You're sure our import code doesn't recognize M and F? That's easy to fix if it doesn't. I'm surprised this is the first time it's come up.
