VoCo Mojo - "Washington" Wednesday

+10 votes

Hello fellow WikiTreers,  from the Volunteer Coordinator Project

Today is "Washington Wednesday!"  As many of us have probably learned, our American ancestors liked to name their children after U.S. Presidents. Today's challenge is to go into your watchlist, pick someone with the name Washington (first, middle, OR last) and spruce up their profile!  Add sources, a background, whatever it needs!   If theirs doesn't need it, pick one of their parents/children/spouses instead. If none of them need it, then pick anyone you want!!  If you don't have anyone on your list with Washington somewhere in their name, pick another president. And if all else fails, just pick any random person!

Happy Wednesday!

Added 5 census reports to George Washington Hughey III (Hughey-438)

1870, 1900, 1910, 1930, and 1940.  I also have the 1920 Census Report to add,  but have not done so yet.

George Washington Baucom sourced and bio written, including the reason my grandmother gave me for naming babies after famous men.

Taylor Washington Martin I went looking for death info and found ... that and lots more.

George Washington Smith The gedcom cleanup is done and the citations moved inline. I'm calling it good enough for now because major sourcing needs to be done to his whole family. All the information is from family reunion programs and mug books.

George Washington Williams This guy ended up on my watchlist because his son married into my great-grandmother Smith's family. Nothing like keeping all the hard names in one family. I went looking for something to add to his profile and hit paydirt. His probate file had been digitized at FamilySearch and included a list of his heirs.

*grin* Can I go back to work on my Campbells now?

3 Brothers Willard Taft Green-16873, George Washington Green -16875, and William Henry Harrison Green-16874.  Added 1 source to each and solved the mystery of a brother William W who could not have been a brother, but was isted in family Boble.

Hey Susan , no real reason for asking ,  but why wasn't. William W. a brother.  What was the mystery and why was he in the family bible?
The family Bible, ordinarily a sacrosanct resource has parents and siblings birthdates and marriages listed. All but one match the family tree  begun by my great grandmothers in the 1930s.  According to my tree, Hiram had 5 sons, including the first 3 named after presidents, two of which were WILLard and WILLiam.  The Bible included a 6th son, William W, born when both Willard and WIlliam were still alive, and did not have a middle name. Also the Bible has a notation written in a different hand that says "No relashion."  So I included him in WikiTree as a son as the only confirmation of his existence was the family Bible.  So with this challenge I decided to revisit Willard Taft, William Henry Harrison, and George Washington Green. In doing so I came across a Find a Grave that hadn't existed before for their father Hiram. Only I was quite sure it was incorrect, wrong location, right dates, but it led me to ANOTHER  Hiram Green, also born in New York, living very near my Hiram Green, with a son William W. who lived only 12 years. This Hram lived with a daughter Louisa, which I am quite sure was not the name of one of my Hram's daughters as she would have been alive when my great grandnother was alive and I am sure she would have known of her and she would be in my tree.  So I suspect the two Hirams may be cousins, otherwise how would that info gotten there, but that is a mystery yet to solve.

Lesson learned : Bible records can be wrong.
