I can only comment regarding my own lineage. John Wells, the eldest son of Joseph Wells II and Charity Carrington, remained in Orange/Alamance County, North Carolina until his death in 1826. His probate file indicates that all of his children had wagon-trained west to Indiana before 1816.
In Cane Creek MM records, Daniel Freeman Sr (father in law of John's daughter Mary Wells) had placed a request to transfer Quaker churches to Lick Creek MM in Indiana on March 4 1815. To date, no one has found the list of who was on that wagon train to Indiana in the summer of 1815. However, Joseph Wells III, Nathaniel Wells, Jesse Wells, Levi GIfford and Daniel Freeman Sr all voted in the first election held in Orange County, Indiana in November of 1816.
