Thank you Susan. That info checks out with what I have also. George Ennis Brown was my grandfather and he does not show up on any of the Census I found. Neither does his twin whose name rumor has was Ernest. It was alleged he may have died. The other son not listed is Brady Brown and he fought in the Spanish American War. It is believed a George Ennis ran away from home repeatedly at an early age of 13 or 14.   Dis there any other info on Eman Proci? Was that his first and last name? George W Brown was said to have been sold at birth or at least he never knew his mother or fathers names. I am looking for info that puts him in Hardin County before 12/31/1880. I cannot find any documentation. His son Allie Thomas Brown born July 20, 1878 in Lynn Township was found in the Census with his birthdate listed but the recorders office does not have a Birth Certificate.

Any idea of where he was born?

With limited info, I'll throw out a couple of possibilities - unfortunately they're pure guesses:

"United States Census, 1910," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:ML6Q-6CK : 29 October 2015), George W Brown, McDonald, Hardin, Ohio, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 112, sheet 8B, NARA microfilm publication T624 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,375,200.

"United States Census, 1900," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMD6-YTD : 22 January 2015), George Brown, Black River Township (excl. Lorain city), Lorain, Ohio, United States; citing sheet 10A, family 197, NARA microfilm publication T623 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,241,294.

"United States Census, 1870," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M629-45Z : 17 October 2014), George Brown in household of Ellen Daugherty, Ohio, United States; citing p. 70, family 495, NARA microfilm publication M593 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 552,699.

"United States Census, 1870," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M62S-1RF : 17 October 2014), George Brown, Ohio, United States; citing p. 7, family 52, NARA microfilm publication M593 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 552,700.

"United States Census, 1920," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MDG8-17X : 14 December 2015), George Brown, McDonald, Hardin, Ohio, United States; citing sheet 2A, NARA microfilm publication T625 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,821,397.

There's probably more, but if you have some additional information, maybe it will help to narrow the search.

I'd say the first one is a sure thing.  Of course George Brown is a very common name, but his age is correct as well as his race and he was born in Virginia which works, and the census is for the right place and the number of children is compatible (the extra 3 probably being ones who were stillborn or died as infants).  Hardin county does not a very high population which reduces the chance of it being a coincidence.  I've been there researching my 2ggrandfather who with his family settled there in the late 1850s when he came over from Switzerland.  The court house has a lot of good records and when I was there about 10 years ago you could look at the original books rather than having to search through microfilms.

BTW, in that 1910 census it gives his birth place as O. Virginia.  Is this "old" or "Originial" Virginia as opposed to West Virginia or something else?

Not sure on the "O" - that's new for me.

Here's a few more on the Hardin OH guy:

"Ohio Deaths, 1908-1953," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X8LY-7LV : 8 December 2014), George W Brown, 15 Feb 1928; citing Kenton, Hardin, Ohio, reference fn 13027; FHL microfilm 1,991,204.

"United States Census, 1900," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MM8T-QSB : 22 January 2015), George Brown, Lynn Township, Hardin, Ohio, United States; citing sheet 5B, family 95, NARA microfilm publication T623 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,241,284.

"United States Census, 1910," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:ML6Q-6CK : 29 October 2015), George W Brown, McDonald, Hardin, Ohio, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 112, sheet 8B, NARA microfilm publication T624 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,375,200.

"United States Census, 1920," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MDG8-17X : 14 December 2015), George Brown, McDonald, Hardin, Ohio, United States; citing sheet 2A, NARA microfilm publication T625 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,821,397.

I would agree with you, Dave - provided the middle initial thing is OK, this looks like a good potential candidate. Birth year off by 1 year on 1900 Census, but the month is good. Death Cert looks like exact same birth date. Race is left blank, so harder to tell for sure. Spouse is also missing from Death cert, as is parents.

Possibly the mother's maiden name too?

Mushaw - Minshaw - Mershaw or some variant, it seems - there are more records, but all fairly similar.

Maybe one or two more a bit more unique...

Thank you! This is the right George Brown. My GFather was George Ennis. We don't have any info on his twin brother. Martha Mushaw was one of his wives the other wife we do not know her name. The 1863 date he was acquired 64 acres or more of land. His parents are unknown
