Please advise how to import the Gedcom after doing the compare report

Normally, you could scroll to the bottom and there's a big button that says IMPORT (or something like that)

However, your gedcom has a message.

Since your file is too large for importing you can completely ignore the match, reject, and skip options.

You will have to split it into smaller pieces. Most people here will recommend that you import about 50 people the first time.

Seems my file's too big and the hours I spent going through the compare report have been in vain. I then started entering manually and came unglued there too!!

Hi Ingrid,

You might have noticed on your GEDCompare report where it says your GEDCOM file is too large to import.  

In your particular case, the reason is there are about 780 suggested matches.  The system only allows for up to 500 suggested matches in one GEDCOM file to be imported.

If you want to be able to import your file you'll need to split it into smaller ones.

We recommend you start off with a small one (50 or so individuals) to begin with so you can get a feel for the process and the site.

Thanks Eowyn. I confess it's been such a struggle to even get the Gedcom from Ancestry, and the instructions for splitting up the file are beyond me (and I'm pretty computer literate!). It's disappointing after spending 2 days going through the compare report, line by line and marking so many for exclusion, only to find it's been a waste of time!

Then I started manually entering, and came unglued pre-1700 only to find more hoops to jump through (some of which are also beyond me to fathom!) in order to consolidate my own ancestry with what's already in the Wiki Tree.  

I certainly understand the need for tight control, but wonder if it's gotten the better of me, how's it affected others?

We used to have the cutoff for skipped individuals as pre-1500 but found there were still too many duplicates being created between 1500 and 1700, hence the change to pre-1700.

I can split your GEDCOM for you if you like. I could do one for each of your grandparents' lines?
