Shipman Family of Allegeny County

I have been researching the Shipman family of Allegheny County and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. My grandfather (Robert Lewis Shipman), great grandfather (Louis Brooks Shipman), great great grandfather (Robert Woods Shipman) and great great great great grandfather (James Shipman) lived in Western Pennsylvania with my great great great grandfather and most of his family migrating to Florida. James Shipman was the son of Joseph Shipman. I cannot trace this family line any further back than William Shipman of Connecticut. I don't believe William was descended from the two family lines mentioned in The Shipman Family of America.

I have found some historical documents suggesting this family may have one time been Jewish. If they were Jewish, I suspect they converted long ago to Christianity and buried their ancestry. It is likely that the actress Helen Shipman was from this family, and she is mentioned in a Western Pennsylvania cultural magazine for Jewish readers. Helen married actor Edward Pauley who I think was blacklisted in the McCarthy era.

Does anyone know about possible Jewish roots for this family line in Western, Pennsylvania?

I wrote the place where I found information suggesting this family was Jewish but I was stonewalled. I am not providing the source of the information as I don't want to start any trouble.

My grandpa name Was Carl Shipman, He had a brother (james) Jim. I know he had more brothers, but I don't remember their names. Grandpa was born in Veedersburg Indiana. They were not jewish, Grandpa was Methodist. Their family was very poor, so  when the boys were old enough to work, they were asked to leave so they would have money to feed the other children. Grandpa ended up in the Calvary In Texas fighting Pancho Villa.
