I wanted to share this family photo of Homer Woodall with the community. Location: Covington, Kentucky. Date: 1950. The Woodalls were a railroad family. Homer was an Engineer and his brother Tom a conductor. His brothers J.W. and Emerson also worked for the railroad. Their father, Jim Woodall, as a young man came to Kentucky from West Virginia working on the railroad "tamping ties" and after his marriage for many years grazed and cared for the work horses for the railroad. In fact, so many Woodalls worked for the railroad that at one time they had their own train stop at the Woodall farm known affectionately as "Woodall Station."

What a great family story and photo to have. My nephew is a engineer, from what I understand you need a college degree to become one now. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks John,  glad you enjoyed the photo and story.   Your nephew has chosen a very interesting and much needed profession.  Even today where would we be without railroads?
My nephew graduated number 1 in his class in college, got hired by the railroad to work in the main office. He said he could make more money as an engineer, so that's the path he took. He loves it, just not the people that think they can beat the train at the crossing.
