Do you have a TO Do list for a WikiTree work?

I first check my unconnected profiles. I usually have 0 now, but I used to say I would eliminate at least one each day. Then I looked at unsourced profiles. I also usually have 0. But if I have any, that's where I start. Than I look at family activity to see who has made any correction to my managed profiles. Often times it's just a typo, but other times it inspires me to relook at a profile and rewrite the bio or search fr their spouse or children.Last I look at my error report. The first day I look at it I go through and do all the easy ones- add gender, confirm name spellings, correct spellings.  The next time I look I just do the men. And the next day just the women. By the time I do all that, I am just about finished for the day, but something always nags at me and I keep on keepin' on.

DO you have a system, to do list?

That sounds like a good plan but I'm not as organized and then I'll go off on tangents and who knows when I'll get back to what I started off on.  Of course, what I see missing on you list is entering new family members.  I probably have about 100,000 people on all the trees I've started over the years, so I try to spend most of my time entering new people or adding sources to existing profiles.

Oh I do that too, I left out that part for fear someone might think I am crazy.  I pick a family branch each week and try to add in everyone in that immediate branch - sometimes a dozen profiles, somes - oh goodness knows how many .Thankfully my  86 year old tree documented in various ways is nearly all transferred over to WikiTree now. But two sister to my great great grandfather that I had just left alone, I decided to attack this week and added in 3 generations  I found through Facebook pages followed up by long phone calls - AND brought 5 new wikitreers into the fold!

I have a To Do List for family history research and one for WikiTree tasks as well. I use Evernote to keep track of everything and delete items upon completion. Sometimes my tasks can take hours, days or weeks to finish. Your execution of a Daily To Do checklist is a good idea that I may "borrow" and implement. Thanks Susan.

I'm working through branches of my ancestors, my sixteen great-great-grands as departure points. Mostly transferring research I have already done - although at the moment I'm on a branch where I did the research so early that now I have been able to go a couple more generations back. Fresh research is a real treat!

For many ancestors I have also done a lot of exploration of the descendants, so sometimes I stay on and follow those for a while. If there's a cluster in a location I like researching, I may tell myself that, OK, I'll stay here for another month - in which case I also like exploring connections to other families in the wikitree.

To begin with, I filled out my basic five-generation tree - and I have a sort of plan to do the seven-generation ahnen list as well. This filling-in I do quickly, with minimal sourcing. I go back and flesh them out when I'm on their branch.

Of course I go off on all sorts of tangents, as well. I'm addicted to problem solving ;-)

Susan, I like your "to do list"!!

I guess I build my to "to do list" around my emails for the day:

If I get a question from a member, I try to research and give them an answer...

If I only get the WikiTree  Genealogy Feed, I check that to see if any Barry's (my surname) were added or worked on. If I need to help with sources I go do that.

Next I go to the g2g forum and see what questions I might be interested in researching.

Or I may go to the database errors report, click on a location and go help fix errors especially missing gender type ones.

Oh, I forgot, I also check my WikiTree schedule(s) to see if I am on duty as a greeter or other volunteer projects I belong to.

My daily routine goes like this, although I never write an actual list:

1) check Nav homepage for any new activity in the names I'm following, on my family feed, look to see if I have received any thanks or badges, say thank you back.
2) read G2G and answer any questions I can help with.
3) look at connectors chat to see if there are any new posts and post any progress - if I've made any, give any thanks and answer as appropriate.
4) Decide what needs doing on profiles today and make some headway. If i create a profile, I add at least one source so I don't have to look at the unsourced list.
5) Look at unconnected list after it has updated.
6) Cry real tears lol (jk)
7) make some attempt at achieving connections, sourcing as I go.
8) check pending merges that are waiting for action by me.
9) Read emails and respond if needed.

Now and then I will have a Merge Monday when I look down a surname list and see lots of duplicates, check them out and if I think they are duplicates, propose a merge. I might also look at the full list of merges requiring action and do some.

I also periodically check the orphaned profiles and take a few on, if there are some in the names and areas I am looking for.

Then between all those things I usually make coffee, do searches for sources and eat. Sometimes I will find sources that will be useful to others so I either put them on the appropriate profile or send a message.

My "problem" if you can call it that, is that I never seem to stop doing stuff on here, there is always something to do.

Hey Gillian, did you see this question: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/281097/question-week-think-that-keeps-hooked-this-hobby-obsession

PS: I like your answer and agree that a lot of us never seem to stop doing things on here and I know your efforts and others in that category are appreciated!!

My list starts even before I log on. First I check my email and work on anything important there. Then I check the Family Activity feed and Pending Merges. After a short break to do other things I return and go to my watchlist starting with the oldest edit date and try to improve them as well as add sources. If I find a profile for someone who has a special meaning to me I will sometimes add other family members on that line but I try to only add sources to existing profiles because I feel that is the biggest and most important problem on WikiTree at this time.
