Seeking info on one Sylvester Sutherland (1739–1810), christening date of 02 Apr 1739, Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland, UK, and more particularly on his father, listed in OPR records as "Jo." Sutherland which I take as "Joseph" given that in the same record "John" is consistently spelled-out--but I could be wrong, of course! "Jo." also has an OPR christening record for another son "James", 1734-.

Unfortunate but but could be abbrev. for a womans name like Joanna.

You could contact Scotlands people maybe they could help.

I've yet to see 'Joseph' abbreviated to 'Jo' and I've never come across a father named Joanna. I would have assumed it to be an abbreviation for 'John'.
