Categories for Virginia cities ... needed, but not yet created [closed]

Hi! I'm a member of the Categorization project and also work on Virginia (both Colonial, which is part of the US Southern Colonies project, and post-USA Virginia, which is part of the US History project).

One of my routine maintenance tasks is to go through the wanted cats (I think you have to be a Leader to see the list) & fix categories that have been added to profiles with a typo or missing piece so that they go to the intended existing category. Every now and then, I encounter a category that applies to project I work with that needs to be created. I'm one of the slowest WikiTree'ers around, and it takes me a couple of days to create a new category.

So ... when I encountered several Virginia city categories that were wanted, as part of the standard procedure for creating a cemetery category, I realized I needed help. Following are the Virginia cemetery categories that have a wanted Virginia city category as of this posting (it will be red on the cemetery page if it's still not been created).

Anyone out there with a special interest in any of these cities who would be willing to create a city category for it? I usually try to find the city's website, Wikipedia article, and any major genealogy resources for it. The "parent" category for the city category would be the county it is in, which may be pre-USA, post-USA, or both (see this table for known county categories... I say known, because I keep finding ones I missed somehow). As far as I know, none of these cities is one Virginia's independent cities, which would have the parent category of either Virginia or Virginia Colony (or both).

Thanks!

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. There is nothing wrong with creating categories for unincorporated places-CDP or not.  I just try to make sure they are actual places, not just a locally used designation.  FAG often uses local names without GNIS validation .
thanks for clarifying. i edited the "important" note I added from CDP to GNIS.

update: and thanks for walking me through the website Dan! I've now deleted the "important" note (they're all ok).

Hi Liz, In VA, all cities, incorporated towns and unincorporated  Census  Designated Places  (CDP) have categories. This leaves 100's of unincorporated populated places without categories. Before saving these cats I always check the Geographic Names Information Service (GNIS) found at http://www.hometownlocator.com/ to make sure the locations given are valid and not just local useage as Find A Grave tends to use these.

Dan - I think the issue is something that needs to be addressed with the Cemeteries project then, because it appears that this is the standard they are using: create the cemetery category & include the cemetery's city/state as a category on the new page. I'm seeing lots of wanted categories apparently created this way, not just for Virginia cities.

After checking their actual existence, all 4 cities have been created in their respective, counties.
