whoops
I'm trying to rebuild my paternal line (Mostly in the Quebec, Montreal, Nova Scotia, and Acadia areas.   Several years ago I attempted and found Jesuit records that linked ancestors to METIS via marriage and births, but in my lack of confidence, I deleted them all to try fresh.

I'd love to join and hopefully help contribute, but I'm no expert by any means.
I went to Orkney, Scotland last year to connect with ancestors, Joseph Slater, or Sclater, to find a year later, his brother John Slater, a founding father of Metis tribe...happy to help. My Scottish aunt did 30 years of research and wrote a book, "The Story of Our Family." I found 4 months of family, 32 generations back from me to Viking King Havard Klo, and this is fun...Aloha from Maui, Claire

I would love to join the First People's project - have already added some information to the Amelia Douglas page, and am now entering the family tree for Chief Dan George.

Please add a First People's badge to my profile.

Please note: the second bullet on your list has an incorrect spelling - candian instead of canadian

Thanks Sharon, You already have the Canadian History Badge and that will have to do for now! Mags
Hi, I need some help with categories for British Columbia First Nations.  Many of the nations are not listed; I want to add Tsleil-Waututh Nation ( I have so far just been listing people under the higher category.  I am working on/ entering the George family (ancestors of actor Chief Dan George), but also have information on many other south-western BC families.  I would like to be accurate categories.

Also, the challenge of names, before European conventions and spellings came into use. I am relying on a research document commissioned by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and need to make quite a few corrections in my original entries.  For many of these people, there are no sources, other than oral history, and the research paper I have cited.

Any help and advice will be welcomed.
Hey Sharon,

Great that you are working on the George family and the BS first Nations People!

Please do add the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Category as well as a Free Space Sub-Project page for them as well. If you go to the First Peoples project page I have a template you can cut and paste into the Free Space profile (editing it to be specific to them).

Shout if you need my help!

Thanks again,

Mags
I need specific details: how do I add Tsleil-Waututh to Categories of BC First Nations (not BS typo in your message).  Right now, I don't feel I have time to create a sub-project; I just want to make corrections and categories the individuals I already entered before I go on to something broader.
Typo?!? Moi!?!?!  :-)

No problem Sharon. Be glad to set everything up tomorrow when I am in the office. I'll Shoot you a note with the information when I am done.

Sunny? You are badged with the Canadian History badge - the First Peoples Project (the top level project which the First Peoples of Canada is a sub-project) doesn't have a badge yet but it's coming...

Hello Mags,

I am currently doing a recatergorization of the [[Category: Aboriginal peoples in Canada]], especially my own subcatergory of Metis. I would love to properly join the first peoples project and gain the badge. I intend to keep adding Metis individuals when I can and tag them as effeciently as possible.

I so didn't see this post until today. Interesting that.

I see you have already discovered that the category is actually [[Category:First_Peoples_Canada]]. I got you a badge.

Thanks for your work!

Hello,

I am interested in learning more about Canadian history and first people. I have done some research on a couple ancestors who belonged to metis communities in Manitoba. What is the criteria for tagging their profiles (and what category should I use)?

Thanks

I would love to add the information from my family genealogy research (Metis, and - further back, Assiniboine relations). Hopefully I can provide (well documented, accurate) information, which may assist others who could be having similar difficulties that I have encountered over the years. A difficult work in progress, but well worth the effort.

I would like to join the First Peoples Canada project please. I am researching my indigenous ancestry from Nova Scotia and hope to one day finally sort out the complicated branches in my family tree. I am of Acadian and Mi’kmaq decent.
