I am searching for anything to do with a Frederick Sedgwick Abbott, who, in 1901 was boarding with his wife in the house of Ann A. Luce aged 50 , at 14, Clarence Villa, Clarence Rd, St Heliers. Frederick died in that year (1901)

Wow, an interesting one. Baptised 11 May 1825, Wapping. Married Christianna Davey 1847. From 1851 to 1871 she is alone in England (tobacconist in 1851). Did he go to New Zealand? 1881 back with wife in Woodford Essex as retired farmer. Wife died and he remarried 1885. Ida Hartington? With her in Kent in 1891.

Yes Frederick was in New Zealand from 1848 (when he arrived in Wellington to manage the Wellington Brewery) until 1875. Sadly he wasn't as good at running a brewery as his father (Edwin Abbott- who owned Bow Brewery in London). and the brewery closed. No mention of a woman in his life the entire time he was living in Waipawa from 1850-1872.
But he returned to his wife in England.

To return to your original question, what were you looking for exact;y?
What we, at our local museum, where I work part time, would love most of all is a photograph of him. Many of the early settlers had portraits or family groups taken but not Frederick. We would also like any information on his missing period between leaving NZ and appearing on the 1881 census with Christianna. My reason for pursuing the Luce connection is in case they have any documentation regarding FSA during his time on Jersey.
I have Martin but thanks anyway. I have been in touch with the historian of the orphanage that she left her personal effects to but no joy there.
