matching different last name spellings

An old challenge still stops me in my tracks.  LAST NAMES  of ancient Nordic women

EX:  I want to find a match for a woman named Eriksdottir.  I only get Eriksdottir names in my search, but a match could also be found under Eriksdotter, Eriksdatter, Eriksdotir, etc.  Without having to open every spelling of that name, can I find a shortcut?

I realize I keep asking the same kind of question in these forums, but so far, I haven't found a way to find matches without going through this lengthy process.

I would use the wildcard function.  If I am looking for Maria Eriksdottir matches, I use the Find Person search, looking for "Mari* Eriksd*"  That search will find all persons with the first name starting with "Mari", including Marie, Maria, Marietta, etc., with the last name beginning with "Eriksd".  You still have to check around, but wildcard help.

But that brings me back to my question of three days ago: "Which name do you merge into: datter, dottir, etc.?
