Who are the parents of John Rutledge?

Currently, we have two similar profiles for John Rutledge born 1711 in Bucks, Pennsylvania and died 1774 in Rowan, North Carolina.  Profile 1405's parents are listed as John Routledge of Cumberland, England and his wife, Margaret Dalton.  There are internet sources saying that the elder John left his estate to John born Cumberland, Pennsylvania; profile 1405 quotes none of these sources.

Profile 669's parents are Isaac and Catherine Rutledge.  It doesn't quote the will listed elsewhere on the internet that Isaac Rutledge left the estate for John Rutledge born Cumberland, Pennsylvania.

Both 669 and 1405 married Eleanor Jane Caldwell.  Obviously, one set of parents is wrong.  669 and 1405 need to be merged and neither has a good set of supporting documents to establish which set of parents is correct.  But at I stated, there are wills on the internet given John Rutledge born 1711(?) his estate or share of the estate. Which will goes with this John Rutledge who died in Rowan, North Carolina

There are two John Routledge's who are father and son.  The first John was born to Thomas and Elizabeth (also mentioned as Isabell) Routledge in 1676 in Bewcastle Parish, Cumberland, England.  He immigrated in about 1689 at the approximate age of 13 to Pennsylvania with a William Routledge, who I believe might have been his Grandfather.  John married Margaret Dalton in 1701,  They had several children including John Jr. who was born in 1711.  John Sr. died in1725.

John Jr .was  born in Middletown Township, Bucks County, PA and died in1774 in Rowen County, North Carolina.  He married Elinor Jane Caldwell who was born in 1681 in Pembry, Wales and died in 1735 in Bucks County, PA.  John Jr. was the first to remove the "o" from his name changing it to Rutledge.

I hope this is helpful.

Neither profile is mine, but two identical profiles had the same wife.  One, however, had Isaac Rutledge as father and his wife, which given what you stated had to be the wrong parents.  The other had John Rutledge and Margaret Dalton as parents thus agreeing with your summary.

In Ireland, there was a connection between my Alexander relatives and the Rutledge family, which I still have to ferret out.  Given the British burned a lot of Irish records (including those in the Ulster province), it may be a long waiting game to discover the links and the descendants.

There seems to be two Lines's of rutledges the ones from Rowan county( my ancestors)  and South Carolina . According to legal documents over a will the ones from Rowan county are named in it-- my great x 5  grandmother was Ann Rutledge who was married to,willaim gay -- it was her father john Rutledge sr   b 1711 and elenore cadwell  are  his parents -- so many are getting the South Carolina line mixed up with them-- the john Rutledge the doctor from sc   was married to Sarah  hext not elenore . Hope this helps

Ps I have copy of will
I'm finally getting back to looking at lines with which I may have DNA matches to (I say "may" because it all depends on whether the trees are correct).

I have two lists of children for "John" Rutledge" - One b. 1711 d. 1774, son of John Rutledge and Margaret Dalton. This John's children supposedly Reason, John III, Mary, Hannah, James, Thomas. They are identified as "Camden"/Hanging Rock. This John's wife is listed as Jane Caldwell.

Then there is "John Rutledge" d. 1774 Rowan Co whose WILL lists his wife, Elenor, and children William, Susanna, Joseph, John, Isaac, Margret, Susannah, Ann, Able and Prudence.

Given the difference in children's names - is it possible these are two different John Rutledge's? In addition, the witness on John Rutledge's Will in Rowan Co was Nancy Cowan. There was a Nancy Rutledge b. 1754 Augusta Co d. 1840 Sullivan Co., TN married to Robert Cowan. She appears to be the daughter of William Rutledge b. 1728 in Co Tyrone who married an Elinor Caldwell in 1751 in Augusta Co., VA. Nancy was the sister of Robert Rutledge (married to Catherine Crockett) and General George Rutledge (married to Annis Armstrong). These Rutledges fought with John Sevier at King's Mtn during the Revolution.

Thought is that William was the eldest son of George Rutledge and Mary Nellie Gamble of Co. Tyrone.

I have supposed matches to the line of John/Margaret - Bewcastle to PA to SC.

And to the Tyrone to Augusta VA to Sullivan Co TN group.

And also to a group from Prince George Co., VA to NC/TN (William Rutledge 1732-1786 married to Mary Creson). I'm trying to see if this group connected to any of the others!

The one group I haven't established a likely connection to is the Charleston SC one. Although from the history of Sullivan Co, TN there is an implied connection to this group with the family of General George Rutledge and Robert Rutledge.

If anyone has done further research that might sort these groups, or show how they may be connected, would love to hear!

My biggest question is who, of these groups, went to and stayed in Co Tyrone - my family was there until the mid 1800s and then to Canada.:)

Thanks!
