Is it possible to test for relationship to Nathan Boone as oral fam hx suggests relationship?

Question

"Our family stories for John Boone Jones" says he was a grandson of Daniel Boone and that his mother's name was Nancy.  He was born in 1835, orphaned, and later came to California then to Ellensburg, Washington.

Is it possible that Nathan Boone's daughter Nancy was his mother?   Can I be tested genetically to see if there is a connection?

Daniel Boone would pass along his Y-DNA only to male descendants to his sons and grandsons and great grandsons etc. Daniel Boone's wife would pass along her mtDNA to all of their children, male and female. Males cannot pass along the mtDNA they receive from their mother.

If John Boone Jones is a direct male descendant of Daniel Boone, and Daniel Boone's Y-DNA is known, then John could have his Y-DNA tested to see how it compares.

According to family oral history i am related to Daniel Boone via my great grandfather, John Boone Jones, who was orphaned as a young child and raised in Arkansas.  He was  born in Kentucky in 1833.   John Boone Jones' mother's name was Nancy.  Nancy, Nathan's daughter, died around 1833.  I have census records on my great grandfather back to 1852 in California.  Everything in our oral family history about him clicks.  We just have been unable to make the connection with Daniel Boone.

i was  as wondering if it is possible Nancy had a child. And then died shortly thereafter.  There is no record of what happened to Nancy other than she had died after an illness.  This was in a letter to one of the other relatives of Nathan.  Then Nathan Boone makes a trip to Kentucky during that time period.  This is all a matter of record.
