Did John Guthrie change his name to Still after the civil war?

Desperately seeking information. My 3X Great Grandfather fought in the Civil War under the name John Guthrie but was known as John Still after the war. I understand back in that time period, men would fight in place of another man for the benefit of the war pension. We have reason to believe that this in not the case in this senerio. We have little information on him and every trail has gone cold. He lived in Robb Township in the 1800's and later married Delilah Hendricks. They had one daughter together, Mary Alice Still. She later married Alexander Reed. Any information would be MUCH appreciated!

I found the following information on a John William Still, whose father was John Guthrie on www.familysearch.org. If you do a search on John Still, it will pull up a number of different records. But, I did not go so far as to find out when his name was changed, etc. Here is a start for you based on the information you posted in your question.
