Daniel Thomas, son of Jane (Browning) Thomas, Leslie Co Kentucky

Question

Jane was married to Aaron Thomas... all indications were that he died in late 1860's.  My ggrandfather was born approximately 1871.  No father is listed on the birth certificate.  Does my family line for Dan Thomas stop there?  No one is left of my grandparents to ask anything of... how else would I research any of this?  It appears that Daniel also had a brother born after Aaron's death.  It also appears that Jane did remarry after that.  Thanks for any help!

Aaron Thomas died in Perry County Kentucky March 14, 1865. Jane married Benjamin Spurlock in 1870/71.  If Jane and Ben lived together and had children before they were married, those children would be surnamed Thomas.  Or Jane lived with but did not marry a man between Aaron and Ben, and again any children born out of wedlock would be surnamed Thomas.  Jane was the daughter of Jacob Browning and Sarah Clem.  Jacob was the son of Enos and Jane Trim.

One of my issues with this information (have seen similar before) is that Jane is listed as having children in the few years following Aaron's death.  She is also listed as having children with Ben.... some born the same year as the children listed for her.  Also, I do know that there was a lawsuit involving the children of Spurlock, as to their inheritance.... apparently, he had several wives. however, the children listed for Jane and Ben were not a part of that... I am going to have to investigate this further.
