When should you remove an acknowlegement?

I was checking into Chris's post on new rules and got to looking at the acknowledgement rules.  I know when I'm trying to clean up a profile I've adopted, there is often an acknowledgement included and I wonder what should be done about them.  Should they always be retained, be checked about with the member who created the acknowledgement or be retained or deleted ad libitum? (= as you like/choose)

I can only give my opinion, not policy! :).  I keep a short version of the gedcom import nottice under acknowledgements to help with keeping track of where the profile came from, etc. (easier than looking through Changes).  If somebody did something special (e.g., flew to England to get a copy of a will to post), I would keep an acknowledgement for that.  And I sometimes put sources that aren't real sources there (too subjective to explain simply).  I don't like keeping acknowledgements for the routine stuff we all do.

I think all the automatically generated acknowledgements should be deleted since they do not meet the current policy for the purpose of acknowledgements and just bloat the profile. Information about the origin of a profile and changes to it can be found in Changes.

If they all should be deleted, then why were they created by the system?

I don't know why the system created them, but when faced with the initial profile without any work done, it is sometimes helpful to know what/when gedcom created it. But after it's had anything added to it, I usually delete them.

I leave them only to provide information about who and when the profiles were created. As with most other guidelines on here, the section on acknowledgements are just that, guidelines not actual hard rules.
