Henry G. Somerby, Esq. is mentioned in the History of Woodstock, Vermont, and a few other places as an eminent or "distinguished American genealogist". In this context, he is described as a going to great lengths to research the Billings family. Does anyone know if he was related to (or was) genealogy fraudster Horatio Gates Somerby?

Paul C. Reed thinks that Henry G. Somerby and Horatio G. Somerby are one and the same. On http://www.americanancestors.org/databases/american-genealogist-the/image/?pageName=30&volumeId=13222&rId=24783188, in his article analyzing Somerby's deceptions regarding the Blake and Billings families, he cites that sentence in the ''History of Woodstock'' and describes it as a reference to "Henry [sic] G. Somerby."

I tagged one of your Billings profiles for Category: Horatio Gates Somerby Fraud.

Thanks, Ellen.

When I read the TAG article, I completely missed the "Henry [sic]" part! Just noticed Horatio.

Horatio Gates Somerby was a fraudster not from incompetence.  He gave immigrants Nobility because they asked him to do so, he knew he was breaking the law and escaped justice by returning back to England....

The immigrants he helped wanted to be connected to Nobility, so they are just as Guilty.......

If it helps he was an ancestor to Bill Gates who made computing a great thing........
