It will be going for 72 hours: October 1-3. Those are the first three days of Family History Month: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We're including Monday so that those who are busy on the weekend can still participate.

Sources can come from anywhere. FamilySearch.org is a great place to start as they have a plethora and are free. :-)
