My error: How do I delete 3 persons (Burnett and Bowie) because I didn't focus properly?

Question

I'm trying to clean up my line of Burnetts. I made errors with several Burnetts (at least one) male and female, and I want to get errors corrected. In the past I've tried to change relationships and have had an arduous and time eating, nervous tension producing time of it. SOS.

Malinda Ellen Ward did marry Wm Moses Burnett and their son was my gf Wm Ward Burnett. I want to build the tree back in time from Wm Moses Burnett, but I must get Richard Burnett gone. I don't remember how I got him. And that means that Marie Bowie and James Jim Bowie must also go.

Roberta, Here at WikiTree we don't delete Profiles, we Merge them. This should be easy enough as you are the PM = Profile Manager for the duplicates.

If you hover your mouse pointer over help at the top right of this page a drop-down box will appear, click on Help Index, then click on the letter "M" for Merging.

John, I may not have been clear. I do not want to pass my errors to anyone as one would with a merge. That family line cannot be merged. It contains errors. Richard does not belong there. Other Burnetts intervene. I want to get the line down to where I know it's correct and add the intervening ones in the following items.

I don't know the extent of the error here, but I have 2 thoughts:

If Richard Burnett and Mary Bowie were actual people but not William's parents, I say John is right and keep the profiles, just detach them from William.

However, if somehow Richard and Mary didn't exist, then would there not then be an argument to delete the profile(s)?

Richard and Mary did exist, Christine. I'll try these things after a night's sleep because always there's something that makes these procedures a little tricky. Thank you everyone.

Hi Roberta,

If you want to remove William's parents, go to his profile and click on the Edit tab. Where it has his father (Richard Moses Burnett) on the side, click on the [edit father] link. That will take you to the page where you can remove him. Then do the same with his mother.

That seems so logical and simple. Almost unbelievable given all the trouble I've gone to before with other similar situations. I'll try it, and pray it works so easily!
