Need sources

I would like to ask NON Pre-1500 certified folks stop requesting merges UNLESS you have sources or are willing to work with a certified partner to find sources.   You have no Idea what it takes to research people in the 1500's.  How do others feel about this.

Sorry Doug, I don't agree with that.  One of Wikitree's main goals is to create a one world tree and merges are essential to meeting that goal.

I also believe that part of the criteria for receiving the pre-1500 badge, is that the person is willing to use their acknowledged skills and  experience to assist others with Wikitree, including assisting with pre-1500 merges.

Having said that, I have at times obsessed over the types of merges you mean, where there are few sources and it can be difficult to really tell if they are the same person.  However on a pragmatic level, if there are no sources on one or both profiles, then if everything else is the same, there can surely be little harm in merging the two profiles.

The only suggestion I would make is to make sure there isn't a third or fourth profile for the same person that need to be factored into the merges.

Few of the mergers (that I have seen) are simple, most require a lot of research (not just some quick google search) just to figure out who's Who.  With that said, I'll work with anyone that's willing to do the research.

My anoyance was with folks that say Hay "I found this someone go fix it"

Finding sources for pre 1500 profiles that can be verified,  can be difficult. I would say that every merger is very different, I don't see a problem with asking for a merger if the information between the two is exact.
