Have you searched on familysearch.org?  Here's one that could be him (1850 Census) living with daughter and son-in-law? (Relationship to head of household not given.) Calculated birth year on the census can be one year off due to the person having a birthday later in the year than the date the census was taken.

Here's another one from family search.  This is user-submitted and gives no sources, but shows him having a daughter named Sarah, which matches the name of the wife of the head of household shown in the 1850 Census.  Nothing firm, but maybe another clue.  Also gives parents for him and his wife and lists 10 children: Allen Howard

Allen Howard was the son of William Howard. I descend from his son, William Henderson Howard and Rachel Waggoner Howard. I have pictures of his tombstone, and Bible scans and scans of court papers filed after the death of his father, William. His step mother was Sarah Sallie Childress Howard. William and Sallie were married in Warren county, NC in 1784. I do not know who Allen's mother was but have lots of information on his siblings, and other information on his descendants.  Census records of his children say he and Polly were born in VA. Hope this helps. Jane

Thanks, I had some info that did't add up right about his birth. sounds like william had a previous wife before sallie. I have visited the church where Allen and several of our ancestors are buried.    I have william howard born in lincoln county on april 4th 1747. I believe John howard and Mary Sanders were williams parents. don't have any dates for them. If you have any info on them i would appreciate it. thanks

William Gwin's wife wasn't Sally Childress.

His wife was Nanney Childres.

There is a marriage bond for them recorded April 29, 1779 in Warren County, North Carolina.

He and his 2nd wife Tabitha Weatherford (daughter of John Money Weatherford and Frances Spraggins) were my the parents of my 5th Great Grandfather William Gwin.

I believe that William and Nanney Childres were my 6th Great Grandfather Elias Gwin's parents.

There is a marriage bond for 6th Great Grandpa Elias and his first wife Rebecca Beckham recorded on December 21, 1802 in Warren County.

He and his second wife Tabitha Weatherford (daughter of John Money Weatherford and Frances Spraggins) were the parents of my 5th Great Grandfather William Gwin.
