Tips on doing searches

I wonder if I am doing something wrong. I did a search for Thomas Jones, born in 1674 and died in 1729. I know this Thomas exists in the Wiki-Tree database, he is Jones-28540. However, when I search for him and sort by either birth date or death date he is not showing up.

The reason I am asking is because I have reason to believe he is the son of another Thomas Jones, born Abt 1645 and died 1679. There are so many Thomas Jones' out there that I think it would be easy to make duplicates if I am not searching correctly.

Thanks for any advice!

I think it has to do with his first name which is entered as "Thomas II" ... ???  If he is Thomas Jones the second then that "II" belongs in the suffix and not in First/Preferred name.

Yes, I did try searching using "Thomas II Jones", also. Annoyingly, I can now find him searching both ways. Doesn't give me warm fuzzy feelings about my search results!

Thanks for your reply. I do agree the II should be in the suffix and I fixed that.
