RootsTech 2017 Registration is Open

For the first time in over a decade, I will be in the U.S. over the winter.  As such, I am planning to attend RootsTech next February in Salt Lake City.  I just looked, and registration is open with early bird pricing available!  The website is located here:  http://www.rootstech.org/rootstech-2017

I'm wondering if Wikitree has their own link for RootsTech in order for them to get some sort of credit on people registering.  Also would be interested in hearing from those that have attended in the past as to suggestions for where to stay, what to do (so many choices), etc.  For example, do you recommend signing up for all of the lunches & evening events?

Tempting !

I know that WikiTree always has something organized for RootsTech. I am sure something will be announced soon.

Hey Darlene,

I can tell you that WikiTree will indeed have a booth set-up in the Expo Hall and it will be manned by Team members, current leaders, members and of course our WikiTreer in Chief, Chris Whitten.

More importantly, I will be there. :-) I will be the one in Orange under the WikiTree signage, wearing a big smile. Look forward to seeing you in real life.

As for classes, lunches and where to stay? The Raddison, Marriott and Hilton are all close to the Salt Palace. Sign-up for as much as you think you can handle - LEAVE time to wonder the expo Hall, because it's huge. If you are feeling the love you can also plan on spending some time at the WikiTree booth helping to spread our WikiTree love. We would love to have you join us at anytime!

Thanks, Mags.  I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of you guys as well.  It really was awesome meeting up with EuroAristo co-leader John Atkinson earlier this year down in Australia.  I'm excited to finally be in the U.S. to get to go.  It seems registration is just starting, as I don't see the hotel link being activated yet to see about getting special discount pricing.  Think I may phone & see what they say.  Thanks for info. on the ones nearby!
Salt Lake City is a lot closer to me, so really thinking about maybe going. Problem - I must use either cane or walker. Can that be handled?

Shirley, I've not been there, but I did an online search and it appears you'd be fine (it's an ADA-compliant facility).  See this link for information on accessibility:  http://www.episcopalchurch.org/files/accessibility_guide.pdf

Thanks, Darlene. I'll check it out. Really would like to go next time.

Mags (and anyone else in the know), can you give me any idea about the various sponsored lunches?  To do or not to do?  If so, I'm clueless as to which choices to make:

  • Thursday - My Heritage or Family Search
  • Friday - Find My Past or Forever (who the heck is Forever?)
  • Saturday - Ancestry or FGS
Those are who is sponsoring the two lunches each day...  Any help here, gang?!  Thanks in advance!!
I am in for RootsTech again this year - as a professional software developer and a genealogy hobbyist, it takes two of my favorite things and puts them together.  :)

Darlene - I usually wait to decide on the lunches until after they've posted the speakers and topics - which they will, eventually.  The lunch prices don't change, so as long as a particular lunch has not filled up, you can go back and add a lunch later.

The hotel discounts have been available since the summer, though I'm not sure they ever fixed all the links from last year.  :(  They don't provide a way to contact them about web site issues, either, so often I will Tweet to the world when something is messed up to get their attention!  Nothing like a "tech" conference where the web site "tech" doesn't work....

Shirley - There are folks at the conference with scooters and walkers and canes, oh, my!

Hope this helps!
Kim, so glad to see your response!  Thanks for the information with regard to lunches.  I had held off pre-registering until I decided about them, but sounds like there's no reason to wait and just don't add lunches right now.  Already figured out the hotel; links weren't working, but I phoned the hotels directly and inquired about a RootsTech discount.  Thanks again!
