Which person Ann Rushall married John Roote in 1600, Badby, Northamptonshire.

I just found a photograph of the actual marriage record of John Roote and Ann Rushall in July 1600, Badby, Northamptonshire.  To my eye, it clearly says Rushall (not Russell):

 http://interactive.ancestry.com/9198/100342775_00010/1166391?backurl=http://person.ancestry.com/tree/14337108/person/28037642641/facts/citation/940021724559/edit/record

And I have found two baptisms for Ann Rushall at Badby at the right time period on this page (and a third one on the following page) :      http://interactive.ancestry.com/9198/100342775_00010/1166391?backurl=http://person.ancestry.com/tree/14337108/person/28037642641/facts/citation/940021724559/edit/record#?imageId=100342775_00022

     (1)  One is baptized 04 November 1572, daughter of Willm and Ann Rushall (who had been married in January 1572).

    (2) The second Ann Rushall baptized 18 April 1574, daughter of Tho: and Ann Rushall.

     (3) On the next page is a third Ann Rushall baptized 16 July 1579, daughter of Henrie Rushall.

The second one (in 1574) is often said to be daughter of Francis Russell, but I think this was wishful thinking by someone who wants to have a more illustrious ancestor.  To me it clearly looks like Tho: (in other words, Thomas) Rushall.  There is also a fourth Ann Rushall baptized in November 1585 (daughter of John), but she seems a bit young.  And the Ann baptized in 1579 (daughter of Henrie) or even the two older ones, seem to be more likely to be the one who married John Roote in 1600.

Any opinions on which is more likely?  And if anyone can find an Ann Russell (daughter of Francis Russell) baptized at Badby in 1574 or anywhere near that date, I would welcome such an alternative.  However, I didn't find any such person.

                   -----------------Thanks

I know nothing about the family but can't see where this has come from(even the village site mentions this marriage)

https://badbyvillage.com/in-and-around-badby/history/roote-family/

I agree about the marriage and think it says Rushall. Maybe you could just clip the word and use it as evidence though I did notice that someone has 'corrected' the ancestry transcription to Russel.  Personally, I think that this would constitute fair use (and ironically  have done this from a copy of the Badby  register , though it wasn't from the Ancestry image)  http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cox-12968 )

The Rushalls seem to have a large presence in the village. There are a large number of births marriages and deaths for them in the PRs  (also in Newnham and  from memory, the church there was a chapel from the parent church in Badby)

There are also several wills for Russhalls  of   Badby, Newnham and Everdon(again a tiny place just a couple of miles away  in a published  calender (on ancestry)  ) Some of these wills  have been transcribed , http://www.genealogycrank.co.uk/pdfs/will_transcripts_northants.pdf   though a quick scan didn't see anything that may provide you with more evidence (but as I say don't know the family )

(looking at those wills has given me the impetus to look work on my own ancestors from Badby; I haven't researched them past the 18th century and their name (Leeson) turns up in the Rushall wills! )

Thanks Helen,

That information was helpful.  However, the profiles for the early Root family are a mess.  John Root Sr. was supposedly baptized in Badby on 24 June 1576, but there is no such baptism, so I don't know where that date came from.  In fact, I could not find a single Root record at Badby until his marriage in July 1600.

He apparently had to get married since their daughter Marie Root was baptized five months later (in December 1600).  Therefore, I assume John Root Sr. came from elsewhere, having gotten Ann Rushall pregnant, and settled in her hometown of Badby (followed by four childen baptized 1600-1609).  If Thomas Root (buried 05 April 1609, Badby) is John's father, I assume Thomas probably moved there to join his son John.

There are 4 siblings for John Sr. listed, but much younger and born in Eastwell, Kent, so don't know if there is really any connection.  Would be interesting to know if there was a John Root born at Eastwell in the late 1570s.  The information for John Root's mother is certainly wrong (profile says she was born in 1574 and married in 1575).

It's going to take a while to straighten out this whole mess, and then I can get back to the Rushall family (who unlike the Root family, were well-established at Badby from 1559 when the records begin).

           ------------Back to work,

                              Ken

Finally found the answer.  John Roote was married to the Ann Rushall who was baptized at Badby in July 1579 (father listed as Henrie).  She was a daughter of Henrie Rushall and Winifred Balle.  The proof can be found in the 1620 will of Winifred (Balle) Rushall, who mentions her daughter Anne Roote (and her children).

It is still not clear which Ann Rushall of Badby was married to John Roote in 1600.  However, she is clearly not the daughter of Francis Russell and Anne Forrester.  I have just disconnected them as the parents.

Therefore, I was finally able to remove the "Questionable Gateway Ancestors" marker from the profiles of her sons Thomas and John Roote.
