Hi all,

Just received a newsletter from a Dutch FamilyTree forum with some news about a website that's going to be launched on thursday that's going to make it easier to research Dutch ancestors, it says people that are looking for info about their Dutch ancestors no longer need to check all the archives, because this new website is going to make it possible to find records from all databases (archives, etc) in just this one place !

It isn't launched yet and it sounds great, but we of course have to wait and see, if and how it works before we can tell if it is as good as it sounds, but we'll keep you updated and add a link here as soon as we have it and know more :)

Absolutely nothing new!!!

It's just a new layer on functions that were already available in the old website. I know, i am a paying 'friend' of the CBG.

Is it an improvement? No, the new user interface has very irritating behavior.

Yes I already noticed and was afraid of it, that's why I added the link to the Archives Portal Europe . It has a lot of search and select options, you can

1.Search in Archives
2. Search in names
3. Search in Institutions and select the options :

1.Select the element in which you want to search:

2.Dates of creation (yyyy/mm/dd)
3.Type of Document,

But you can also just start a search without selecting anything and it really gives some pretty amazing and unexpected results :) (results that probably would take hours of searching or that you would never find without this Portal )

Thanks Bea, for contributing the link to the Archives Portal Europe. Looks like it can be used as a roadmap to the location of information.

Yes it can be used as a roadmap, it shows and has the info from the source and if possible it will also take you directly to the archive and the source . Some of these sources would normally take you quite a while to find in these archives, but with the help of this Portal you'll be at the right place in just a few clicks, so it's easy to use and saves a whole lot of time.

Ok noticed the link to the article wasn't working, replaced it with a working one (to the article) and rereading the article, it probably is launched already, so you all can try and see if it is as good as it says CBG Centrum voor Familiegeschedenis

by the way the article says: ''Onze archieven worden vooral gebruikt door mensen die een stamboom maken, dat zijn voornamelijk wat oudere mannen '' ( really ??? :P )

translated: ''Our archives are mostly used by people working on creating a family tree, these mainly are a bit elder men''

checked it out a bit already and it looks like you have to get an account and be ''friends'' ...which comes down to...you'll have to pay for some of the things found there, so well I don't know, so far I'm not convinced this is meaning we don't have to search in the archives for the available info and records we can find there.

But I have something else for all of you Archives Portal Europe it's totally free and you can search archives from all Europe..already found some pretty awesome stuff there  :)

I've been on that website about two weeks ago, but so far it isn't having enough info/persons added, and not working easy. So we need patience.

Went there working on the Dutch Hoeksche Waardse Monsters.......... No help.

Besides it is not user friendly. The moment you click a person you can not go back to the search page/info and have to do all again from the start. As far as I get it it is not an improvement of any we have yet. Stay to our old sources till it gets better. I just keep my fingers crossed but before that is improved we need years to go.
