Hi!
The question... would re'pta [renupta] mean remarried?
The problem... In a chart of the Billingsley's lineage in the 1623 Visitation of Shropshire, William's wife is given as "Elizabeth da. & heire of . . . . Harding al's Harlowe re'pta [renupta] Sr Martyn Bowes, Kt."
And I have two reputable sources (biographies posted by the History of Parliament Online) that give conflicting information. Bio for William & Elizabeth's son Henry says William married Elizabeth, widow of Martin Bowes & the bio for Martin says he married Elizabeth, widow of William Billingsley. The dates don't help, as the bios have Henry b c1538, William d 1570, and Martin marrying William's widow in 1554.
Help?
