Categorization - am I starting to catch on? [closed]

I just created a free space page - http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:New_Netherland_Immigrant_Ancestor_-_Jan_Joosten - but I didn't want to add it to any categories until I could do it right (and I also wanted to get feedback from the project members first).

So, if I understand categories correctly, the freespace page I created should only have Category:New Netherland Immigrant Ancestors. Then once I create that category (Category:New Netherland Immigrant Ancestors), I should add just Category:New Netherland Immigrants from Amsterdam to it. And that one - Category:New Netherland Immigrants from Amsterdam - would be the one to have the top-level Category:Immigration and also the (not top-level) Category:New Netherland Settlers ....right? Or did I go astray on the Category:Immigration one?
closed with the note: this question became moot almost immediately, nearly 2 years ago, as feedback from NNS members was that such a category (New Netherland Immigrant Ancestors) wasn't going to be particularly useful

It seems like Category:New Netherland Immigrants from Amsterdam should be a subcategory of Category:New Netherland Immigrant Ancestors, not the other way around, right? Because it's more specific.

Also, I think New Netherland Immigrant Ancestors should be called New Netherland Immigration, to be consistent with the other immigration categories.

maybe I should have posted the categorization question along with the explanation of the page/my concept - see http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/30250/new-page-for-new-netherland-settlers-project

Project=New Netherland Settlers, includes those born overseas (still working on this piece of the criterea) & migrated to New Netherland.

Subcategory for those who migrated to New Netherland, including every man, woman, and child: "New Netherland Immigration" instead of multiple "New Netherland Immigrants from [port of embarkation]"? or would that be a level of subcategory under "New Netherland Immigration"?

Subcategory of all the families/people who immigrated... "the" Immigrant Ancestor"

Clear as mud still what I'm trying to do?

Liz,

This is about your note"the freespace page I created should only have Category:New Netherland Immigrant Ancestors."

A Free Space does not have to any any categories but could have multiple ones.

It is only category pages that must have at least one parent category.

Often a Free Space may not be in a category but has a number of indirect references to it.  It all depends on what you wish to do.
