Help finding the ancestors of my great grandpa, Maurice J Walsh who lived in Montana

+3 votes
My name is Daphne LaFantasie. I need help finding the ancestors of my great grandpa.  He lived in Montana and had at least two children. One of them was my grandmother. The other was my great  Uncle Marty. I know his fathers name was Thomas X Walsh and his mother was Mary  Walsh. I found Thomas on the census and I believe I found his immigration, which states he was from a Free Irish State in Ireland. My grandmother was born in the thirties in Montana.  They lived in Deer Lodge and Anaconda.  My great grandfather Maury died in Washington .

I too have Walsh grandmother and great grandfather who have been extremely hard to trace with Walsh being such a common name. My advice is to find marriage records. Parents are listed on sibling marriages and death certificates, sometimes the only way to piece a family together.

The most detailed are through churches. The immigration pattern brought many Irish through Canada and into Chicago during the famine years. After the Chicago Fire many were dispersed through out the Midwest. Tracking them is not easy by any means.
