When was Elizabeth (Godfrey) Cary born (perhaps 1626?).

There seems to be something very wrong with the profile of Elizabeth (Godfrey) Cary.  Elizabeth Godfrey (daughter of Francis) was baptized at Litlington, Cambridgeshire, in 1613. That would make her 57 years old when she supposedly had daughter Mehitable Cary in 1670. Even the 1620 date (for which I couldn't find a reliable source) would make her 50 years old.

If Mehitable Cary was her daughter, Elizabeth would more likely be born about 1626, which would make her 18 years old at marriage and 44 years old when daughter Mehitable was born. I suppose Elizabeth Godfrey could have died well before 1670, and John Cary married another Elizabeth. But if not, I would say Elizabeth Godfrey was born about 1626 (perhaps not to Francis Godfrey).

Yes that profile is clearly wrong but there seems plenty of evidence online that John Cary's father-in-law was a Francis Godfrey.

Be aware of the fact, there are many people with the same names,in the

'same area abt the same age.Likely they are all cousins,in a different line.

It can be very difficult,to figure out who is who.I once had 5 people same name age same place ,went too same parish. That is when people

started changing how last name spelled, such as Smith went too Smyth,

Smythe,Smithe etc.

Hi all,

I have been looking at the suggestion that she might be the Elizabeth Godfrey born in 1626 at Abbots Morton, Worcestershire.  She would be a perfect fit, the year being what I would expect and her father's name is Francis ("Fraunces").  The mother's name is Frances, but she could be a first wife who died and Francis then marrying an Elizabeth as his second wife (the one in his will).

Francis and Frances Godfrey seem to have 5 children born at Abbots Morton from 1616 to 1630 (Aliice who died very young, Fraunces, Kenelme, Elizabeth and Jane).  And then I could find no further record of them (unless it is the Francis and daughter Elizabeth who ended up in Massachusetts).  Would need to find more evidence that would link Francis Godfrey of Massachusetts with Francis Godfrey of Worcestershire.  He is usually said to have come from Gloucestershire or Somersetshire, but I don't know if there are reliable sources showing either of those counties as his origin.
