The 1910 census shows a John Nieto in NY (a cigar maker) born in PR who had a wife named Severa, 5 children, and one nephew living in the house.  John could read and write and was considered an "alien", since citizenship wasn't granted to Puerto Ricans until 1908.

Robert,

Thank you. That is my great great grandfather.

Scott

You're welcome!  I meant 1917 (not 1908) as per the Jones-Shafroth Act.

You have his death record from New York? Will you be adding him to WikiTree so we can post these records on his profile? Glad you've joined us!

Also if there's any chance Juan's family members would have gotten his mother's surname wrong after his death, there was a couple from Santurce, San Juan, named Juan Nieto and Fidela Rivera who had daughters Juana Nieto Rivera about 1868 and Julia Nieto Rivera about 1870. Their names are mentioned in their daughters' records on FamilySearch.
Hello,

Yes, I have his death certificate. I am slowly learning how to get organized in Wikitree. I will eventually get around to it.

Thanks

Scott

I don't believe they got the mother's surname wrong. The information appears to have been provided by Juan's wife and son on his death certificate.
