Can you help my find my third great grandfather John Stone?

I have been trying to confirm that a John Stone, born in Virginia in or about 1760 and died in Coles Co. Illinois in 1849 or thereabouts, is my third great grandfather.  One of his sons was Dr. Stephen Stone born in Virginia  in 1794.  Stephen died in Coles Co. Illinois, Hutton Township in 1853.  One of his sons, my first great grandfather, Commodore N. Stone, was born in Coles Co. Illinois in 1836 and died in Texas in 1910.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time and effort.
