Cannot find birth of 3xgrandfather or where the family lived ?

Question

William Swiffin(g) married Edith Sarah Denning in 1797 in Stilton, Hunts.

about (1750 - 1811)                         (1759 - 1854)

But nothing can be found regarding where William was born (about 1750) or where his family may have lived?  The name has several variations but mainly Swiffin or Swiffen and not part of the Swinfen tree at this time.

I gather the early Holme registers are badly damaged.

I'd suggest the Huntingdon Record Office is your best bet.

Thanks for the reply and Yes ... we have searched the Huntingdon Record Office but had no luck there. We think he may have come from further afield  to Stilton. Possibly a 'well digger' form the Fens ?

Yep, that's always the problem pre 1837. But a wider search of Familysearch doesn't help.
