Sharon, do you have any details on Hugh to help with the search please?
The census stated that Hugh Grant was from Maryland!  There was a village there called Grantville, but don't know if that was his origin.

Hugh Grant (b. 1776 or 1778; d. 1806) Native of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; a miller by trade also owned l87 acres of land there (heart of present day Pittsburgh which he traded for 400 acres east of Grove City, Ohio--first settler of Grove City, Ohio (same year Ohio became a state).  In Dec. 1806 he was killed by a large limb while climbing a bee tree.  He married Catherine Barr about 1795.  Chileren: Nancy; Mary Polly; Alex (?); Hugh Jr.; Alenander (my 4th g-grandfather); Isabella; and Jacob.  A Centennial Biographical History of the City of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio names Noah H. Grant as Hugh Sr.'s father (born in Conn."and was one of a family of nine children, to one of whom General Grant traced his ancestry"  It also states that "Noah Grant went to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and there spent one winter; but nothing else concerning his history is known by his descendants."
