No reply or action on merge request

Mowry-231 and Mowry-349 are clearly duplicates of each other except that the second lists the first's paternal grandparents as the parents.  After doing research it was quite clear to me that of these Mowry-231 has the correct parents (only one document would indicate this, but there is also a lot of circumstantial evidence including this person having a mother giving birth to him at age 37 or 71).  A merge was requested of the two profiles a year ago and I placed it into unmerged matches until the issue could be resolved.  There has been no reply from the other profile manager; his last activity is reported as being almost 3 years ago.  What should the next step be?

Good grief! We're talking here about an unsourced profile with Open setting that was created 4 years ago, by a WikiTree contributor who hasn't edited in 3 years, that obviously has an error in the parents (there is no way that a woman born in 1613 had a baby in 1684), and you've been waiting quietly for a year in hopes of getting a reply to a PM that you sent the guy who hasn't been here in since 2013?

These profiles are Open for a reason -- so that they can be edited. Post a message on the profile explaining why you are replacing the parents, then replace the parents on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mowry-231 and propose the merge.

Roger Mowry, the grandfather of this person, and John Johnson, the father of Roger's wife Mary, are both "featured" subjects in The Great Migration series. There is some good content that could be used to improve the profiles of several family members. If you are not a member of NEHGS, I suggest that you take advantage of this week's offer of free guest access to the Great Migration Project materials on americanancestors.org so you can obtain some of this content. Thanks, Ellen.  I shall do as you suggested.  It feels impolite to change a profile someone else manages without their permission, but if they there's no way to get their permission, I guess this is the only way to do it.

What should I do if no one finalized the merge?
It will go into automatic status in 30 days, and you can complete it then.
AND, if a contributor has not been active for three years, I have absolutely NO problem making direct edits on the profile.
Thanks, Jillaine.  I've flagged this thread in my email, and when the merge is complete I'll close it.
