Hi,
I'm working on my husband's branch of our family tree. I'm having real trouble on this one ancestor. I cannot prove he died, or where, and I don't read Norwegian so I'm having trouble with translations.

What I know is, his name can be spelled in a variety of ways. There are people in this tree with either the Amundson or Amundsen spellings. At one point I was on a message board for Norway information. The address info on my printout reads:

There's a thread called Re: Sisters Olsen from Christiania. In the thread, a post dated February 8, 2006 at 11:43:55, a comment is made as a side note - "This is surely the Albert Amundsen who are Punx. in the Census over. Who is Hanna! ??"

At 1:13:38pm, there is a discussion of baptism. In 1888, Hans Jacob was baptized and his parents were Albert Amundsen and Hann Matilde Olsdatter. Father was born in 1869 and the mother in 1865. Another side note: "So this is those who emigrated and settled in Punx. The mother is in Census 1900 Hanna M. and his son Hans J. was born in June 1888." The same post goes on to propose that the father of Hanna Mathilde is Ole Amundsen.

At 1:37:45, there is another baptism discussed. Ole Kristina (I believe was Ole Christ Amundson) was baptized 7/12/1891 and I think the translation lists a birth of June 2, 1891. Albert Emil Amundsen and Hanna Mathilde Olsdatter are listed with that one also. It says "on Nordbaek." I don't know what that means.

As far as American records go, I know that Albert and Hannah Amundson wound up in Punxsutawney and had a bunch of kids there. I'm aware of the 2 sons born in Norway. The rest of the kids were born in the USA. What's really bugging me is Albert's death information. Hannah is buried in a large cemetery in Punxsutawney with a ton of other Amundsons. I can't find a record of a burial or a death of an Albert Amundson in Pennsylvania in 1915.

Adding to the confusion is that the obituary for their son Herman in 1916 says that Herman was "survived by his parents." Then Albert probably didn't die in 1915.

Please note that he is gone by the 1920 census.  That shows Hannah as widowed.

I have been working on Ancestry, Wikitree, Findagrave, Newspapers.com and Family Search. I have been through digital death records for Pennsylvania for that county for 2-3 years on either side of 1915. Nothing.

I have also tried looking for a death certificate for his son Hans J. Amundson who died in 1967.  He is buried in the Circle Hill Cemetery but I can't find  death record or obituary on him either.

The Amundsons were a large family in Punxsutawney and there was a machine shop there called Amundson Brothers. Many of the Amundsons were machinists. My husband's grandmother was the Amundson at the end of this line.

I'd appreciate any advice.  Thanks so much!

If he really did live until 1915 or later, it's surprising that you can't find him in the Pennsylvania death certificate files on Ancestry.

At least his wife's death certificate (from 1940) says she was a widow, which strongly suggests he died before 1940.
I should have mentioned, he is gone by the 1920 census.  Hannah is listed as widowed on it.

I appreciate you trying to help but that is not the same family at all.

Thank you though.
Thank you so much for trying but that would be a totally different family.  I appreciate it though!
