How do members have DNA connections to profiles of people from around medieval times? I've seen a few DNA matches to really distant descendants. Can you explain this to me?

Eric, Please give us the Wiki ID for some of the ones you have seen that seem to be unusual. There are two types of DNA information you may have seen. One is the information about a DNA test that someone has taken, which is displayed automatically by WikiTree.  Information about a  yDNA or mtDNA test could be displayed that far back. Autosomal DNA is only useful back about 5-6 generations and shouldn't be displayed on medieval profiles. The other DNA information is the DNA confirmed symbol that you see displayed next to the father or mother of the profiled person. Those appear when a relationship to a parent is marked 'confirmed with DNA'. Every time that a relationship to a parent is marked 'confirmed with DNA' there should be a statement within the Biography for the profile documenting how DNA was used to confirm that relationship.  Here's the WikiTree page that explains how to do that: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/DNA_Confirmation

All this means, in the context of WikiTree, is that some person who is a descendant of that medieval person has added their DNA to their own profile. Overnight WikiTree propagates the DNA to all ancestors of that person. Additionally, YDNA and MtDNA are propagated down other descendant lines to the end of their lines in more recent times.

Eventually, with more YDNA, for example, other descendants from that medieval person will post their DNA to their profile and it too will be propagated. This will either confirm the links or highlight a problem in the links.
