Theron/Terry Knapp who died WWII

This is no known connection to my family.  

The latest Reminisce magazine had a request for information about a Theron or Terry Knapp who died in World War II.  He was a friend of the writer's father, and the writer was named for the man.  Here's the address of the article in pdf format, including a photo with his request (page 19 of the 68 page document):

In the article, the writer said that Terry (Theron) Knapp was killed in New Guinea during WWII.  So it appears that we need someone who died in 1944 or 1945.  Someone out there knows a way to get the information.  Mr. Hoistad, perhaps if you had your father's DD214 you could determine his unit; I assume that Terry (Theron) was in the same unit.
