George Percy Stoner was born in 1916/17. He lived at Redhill, Bournmouth. Aged 18 he had an affair with Alma Rattenburg of Villa Madeira, 5 Manor Road, Bournmouth. The two of them were tried in 1935 for the murder of Alma's husband Francis Rattenburg. The trial took place at the Old Bailey and Stoner was convicted of murder and sentanced to death. He was later reprieved and after serving 7 years was released to fight in WW2. He married in 1944 and had a daughter in 1948. I have a friend whose family of Stoners come from Chichester and I am trying to see whether there is a common ancestor. Any connection will come from George P Stoner's parents, g-parents generation or earlier.

His birth was registered as George Percy R S Stevens.  Parents George Reuben Russell Stoner and Olive M Stevens who married some time later.

Half of Stoners come from Sussex so the odds on a connection aren't high.  If you contact me at through stoner.org.uk with the Chichester family details I may be able to help.
