Effie Zumwalt married Harry Hill McGrath from Maryland in 1895. She is my great great grandmother on my mother's side. I haven't been able to find the names of her parents.

Here's an article about a testimony given by a Mrs. H. H. McGrath.

And a article with photo of the couple's 50th anniversary.   There is a clue that Effie was a teacher before she married H.H.

Thank you for the lead!
I'm looking through Colusa County records without luck. Many other Zumwalts though.
i found this information but am not sure of the accuracy. https://www.myheritage.com/names/effie_zumwalt

John Zumwalt and Sarah Parthena seem to be her parents. I'll keep digging.
This doesn't confirm John Zumwalt is her father, but here is a 90 yo John Zumwalt donating a covered ago that his family came to CA in over the plains in 1848 to the Tulare Co. Indian Museum in 1928.  The article says this John resides in Bakersfield now and mentions a nephew named M. C. Zumwalt. IF this is your John, the he was born about 1838, came to CA at age 10 and COULD HAVE fathered a daughter in CA in the 1870s.  So he can't be ruled out, but also he can't be ruled in either.

IF he is yours, then I would want to know IF that museum still had that covered wagon.  It would be simply awesome for your family to see your own piece of history.

Here's the 1880 census with 5 yo Effie.  Sarah is the head of household and wIdowed!

"United States Census, 1880," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M6G5-8NM : 14 July 2016), Effa Zimwalt in household of Sarah P Zimwalt, Grand Island, Colusa, California, United States; citing enumeration district ED 14, sheet 450A, NARA microfilm publication T9 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 0064; FHL microfilm 1,254,064.

The 1880 census below rules the covered wagon donating John out.   He could not have donated the wagon in the 1920s, if he died before 1880.
