I am trying to further the information on my great grandparents:

Thomas Henry Walters, born Australia 1868

Fanny Hysome, born England 1877

They married at Old Paul's Church in Durban, South Africa in 1899

Albert Frank (my grandfather), Leonard, Ailsa Natalia & Stanley William

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Tess

Thanks for your response. I have found two sources that reference your information, both say Thomas Henry was born 1867 which is still possible since the marriage certificate says that he was aged 31 as of June 24th 1899.

Unfortunately it does not conclusively identify THIS Thomas Henry as my great great grandfather.

I will hope for some other leads on the Walters/Hysome side.

Brian, I found their marriage source.

"South Africa, Natal Province, Civil Marriages, 1845-1955," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KDCL-SCZ : 27 December 2014), Thomas Henry Walters and Fanny Hysome, 24 Jun 1899; citing Durban, Natal, South Africa; 00470; National Archives and Records Service of South Africa, Pretoria; 1,259,229.

I wonder if the Hysome was originally Hisome?

Hi again

Wow what a fast response!

I realized I left that marriage certificate date out of my first message. The first link has the exact Duplicate Original Register that I have.

Good find on Hisome. I do know that the Walters/Hysome story started in England via Australia before they began the next chapter in South Africa.

Any other recommendations on how I can validate this William/Abigail Hisome or the Samuel/Jane Walters links? My thoughts would be to try to track down any of their descendants to see if they have any additional information that includes my ancestors.

Kind regards,

Brian
Yes, I think descendants would be your best hope. It's a pity the marriage document didn't show parents and the witnesses signatures are not readable.
Yes you are right.

Since I could not find these people, I've created profiles for them:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Walters-4480

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hisome-3

So hopefully a descendant of them sees them (see my public comment) and then I will reach out.

Thanks again.
