Follow one of the line back and you'll run into Robert du brus Or hobbe

Hubbs The surname is a inside family thing,As it is traced back to Robert of Bergandy,or Du Brus.Just after 1297 or a battle of stirling bridge.Part of the family I do not know who or why but they ended up in France Bergandy to be exact.Robert the Bruce or the hobbe as I guess he was not a good king is where the surname came from.This is after some one in the family came back from france.So some of the line of Hubbs goes to du brus.Also I am not 100% but some of the line goes to the Royal line of Frasers.I have never bothered to chase that.I know in 1970's someone was looking into King Clovis also not sure where that went either.Good luck,Happy hunting.  B

The English King used the nickname hob or hub as in the german ,I believe for "Die Hub" .Anyway the family being desended of Herleva and William not 100% sure, Where some of the first to follow when the king started to use last names later.As a result of the insult the english threw toward the line of Robert the Magnificent part of the Du Brus and later Stuart or Steward they formed the last name Hubbs.Again this was a very chaotic and violent time.So tours Chronicler may be a source.
