Understanding the "impact" of display with Privacy settings.

I am using President Clinton as my example to help others understand the impact of Privacy settings on how a profile displays.   Regularly people critique other profile managers for a profile as being set up "incorrectly" because of these settings.

Key things to remember is that the spouse does not show on a profile where the privacy is set as ANY of the private settings, even if the Public Family Tree is chosen.   Also, the name displayed is the Short Name Form where the privacy is set as ANY of the private settings.

On this profile, I have put a specific note to help with this issue.   You can see the impact of the naming rules by just looking at how he is displayed in this message.

Yeah i really really dislike that there is no option to display the spouse of a living person. Just ain't right.
Thanks....I think it is "odd"....we know the children, and the rest of the family, but, not the spouse....
It is also odd that if you click on the child, you can see both parents anyway.

This is a public figure. The privacy of non-political and public figures need to be considered.

Today, it's very easy for identity theft to occur, with this in mind - I'm against loosening the privacy controls.

I know a lot of this information is public knowlegde but packaging it all up and placing it in one convenient place is making it too easy for identity theft.

I agree Terri, which is why I am not suggesting a change, I just am trying to educate people so that others are not critiqued for not having the correct spouse attached, or not having the correct full name on the profile.   I have a thick skin for all the critiques I get about the living US Presidents, but, I am not sure that is the same for other profile managers.
Great points, Robin. Generally if I realize that a public figure will have these types of things blocked out, but that at the same time the information is readily available in a hundred different places on the internet, I will do exactly as was done on former President Clinton's profile - I add a link to them in the biography section. I get why this is done, but at the same time, sometimes you have to work with the system and understand it so that when it comes time, you know how to work around it to get what is proper and correct.
But why can't the algorithm simply be changed to display something like [Private partner]?

If you click in the Descendant tree on the Public ancestor, it shows m. [private spouse]

So it is just silly and misleading to not show that same display in the profile view. There might be a few people who don't want it to be publicly known that they have or had a partner, but there is already a hide display option checkbox for that, as in the case of divorce.
Good point. Looking at this view:

https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Blythe-Descendants-1

(from Bill Clinton's father) - you can clearly see both the terms "Private Spouse" next to Bill and his daughter Chelsea. Granted, you can't click on or see who the Private Spouse is, but I get your point, Steven. If you can see it from this view, why not from the other. Makes sense to me.
